On the 30th of October ASE (Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division) officially opened its office in Cairo, Egypt.
Sergey Kirpichenko, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the RF in the Arab Republic of Egypt as well as Abdel-Hamid El Desoki, representative of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) of Egypt, and Grigory Sosnin, Vice President for JSC ASE EC Project in Egypt, have taken part in the opening ceremony.
“The Project for construction of the first NPP in Egypt is an ambitious and large-scale project, its implementation demands accurate and well coordinated work of all our enterprises, maximum optimization of all the processes. — Grigory Sosnin mentioned. — Currently the Project is at the stage of licensing and performance of the preparatory period works; the scope of works is increasing, the demands for close coordination with the Egyptian party are also increasing. For this reason, opening of the office is a logical and long expected step in development of our bilateral relations. It will allow to expedite solving of operational issues, provide the dynamics in obtaining various approvals required for the Project”.
“Previously we said that Egypt shall become the adopted Motherland for ASE employees. We understand the significance of this Project for both parties. We greatly appreciate our fruitful cooperation with the Russian team and are extremely glad that our Russian colleagues have managed to create the most comfortable and convenient conditions in Egypt as well for continuation of the work for the benefit of our countries. In Egypt State Corporation Rosatom is implementing one of the first-rate projects for NPP construction. The El Dabaa NPP Project includes construction of four 3+ generation WWER-1200 units in the Matruh region at the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, supply of Russian nuclear fuel for the entire lifecycle of the nuclear power plant, training of the personnel and providing support to the Egyptian party in operation and maintenance of the nuclear power plant throughout the first 10 years of the plant operation. Within the framework of another agreement the Russian party will construct a special storage facility and supply containers for SNF storage.
