Installation of Unit 1 Thrust Truss Started at Kursk NPP-2

21.11.2019
A thrust truss has been installed in the design position in Unit 1 reactor building at the construction site of Kursk NPP-2. The thrust truss is a part of reactor pit equipment and is designed for secure fastening of the reactor pressure vessel.
The truss is a welded metal structure with diameter over 7 meters and height about one meter.
“The thrust truss installation is one of the milestones for 2019”, noted Mr. Rostislav Kimlik, Deputy Chief Engineer of Capital Construction Division - Head of Construction Monitoring Department of Kursk NPP-2. “The equipment was installed in the reactor pit at elevation +16.5 meters with DEMAG crane.”
The thrust truss was delivered to the construction site by parts, whereupon its pre-assembly took place. Total weight of the equipment amounted to 25 760 kg. After the truss is installed in the design position, the pit will be filled with concrete of special composition.

According to Mr. Alexey Smirnov, Deputy Director of Corporate Economic Resources Management for Kursk-2 NPP Construction Management of ASE EC JSC, the installation took place ten days earlier than scheduled. This will allow not only carrying out active work in the reactor pit of Unit 1, but also proceeding with installation of the core catcher at Unit 2 ahead of schedule.

*Units 1 and 2 of Kursk NPP-2, 3+Gen are pilot units built under VVER-TOI design (standard optimized digital water-water power reactor). This is a new design created by Russian designers (Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division) based on technical solutions of NPP design with VVER-1200. It has improved technical and economic parameters. Compared with power units of the previous generation (VVER-1000), the capacity of each unit has increased by 25% up to 1255 MW. Service life of the main equipment is twice as long. New units of Kursk NPP-2 comply with the most up-to-date safety requirements of the IAEA.
The developer and technical customer of the facility is Rosenergoatom JSC. The general designer and general contractor is ASE EC JSC.

For reference:
Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division was established by integration of the leading companies of the industry: ASE EC JSC (Nizhny Novgorod), Atomstroyexport JSC (Moscow), Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow) and ATOMPROEKT JSC (St-Petersburg).
The Engineering Division is one of the global leaders in nuclear power engineering and holds about 30% of the global NPP construction market. It carries out its activities in Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa, as well as in the Asia-Pacific region.
80% of the order portfolio includes overseas projects.
It implements design and construction projects for high-power NPPs, renders a full range of EPC, EPC(M) services and develops Multi-D technologies for management of complex engineering facilities. The Engineering Division rests upon the 50-year experience of the Russian nuclear power industry and state-of-the-art innovation technologies.
We construct reliable and safe NPPs with 3+Gen VVER reactors that are in line with all international requirements and recommendations.
