Necessary measures have been taken at the Belarus NPP construction site to prevent eventual coronavirus contagion

15 specialists of Rosatom Engineering division subcontractors that arrived at the Belarus NPP construction site are hospitalized in the health care centre of the Grodno Region. The specialists are sequestrated on the ground of their COVID-19 positive tests that they took upon their arrival to the Republic of Belarus. At the same time, they feel perfectly fine, no disease signs are visible. These personnel have been re-tested for coronavirus.


“We have the situation well in hand”, Vitaly Polyanin, JSC ASE EC Vice-President — Director for the Belarus NPP construction project pointed out.


The scope of persons that came into contact with them has been also identified. They have been sequestrated and tested for the coronavirus too, and the results of the tests are expected in the immediate future.


The construction site takes all necessary measures to ensure its employees’ safety. All the newly arrived specialists are tested for COVID-19. All the employees are provided with individual protection equipment, entrances to the buildings and admission check points are equipped with sanitizers, body temperatures are taken. If ARVI signs are visible, the personnel are delivered to health posts and their pass to the construction site are made invalid. All these measures will allow us to timely identify and prevent the spreading of the virus’.


The specialists’ living community has been disinfected with the assistance of the Belarus Ministry of Emergency Control.


The Rosatom State Corporation takes every measure to minimize the adverse effect of the epidemiological crisis and to ensure that the obligations to the Customers are fulfilled in full scope and within the dates stipulated by the relevant contracts. The works at the Belarus NPP Unit 1 are at the final stage, the engineering means of the Unit 1 physical protection passed to the acceptance procedure on March 31 and currently Unit 1 is ready to take the fuel. On April 5, Unit 1 was under the guard of the Belarus Ministry of Internal Affairs security personnel.
