Volunteers of the Engineering Division participated in “Pushkinskiy volunteer” Project financed by the Presidential Grants Fund.

Under the Project, on August 13-16 in Znamenka village of Bolsheboldinskiy district of Nizhny Novgorod region ten employees of Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Saint-Petersburg assisted in restoration of the Nikolskiy church. Local people also participated in the Project.

Volunteers cleaned the church and the adjacent territory from waste and alluvial soil, participated in installation of bells in the bell-cot and preparation of the church for the first worship. On August 16 the first for several decades church service was held.

Sergey Kruglov, 1st Grade Design Engineer of the Technical Division of JSC Atomproekt, noted that the volunteers from the Engineering Division not only carried out hard physical work, but also were in demand as engineers. “Besides doing simple but requiring great physical effort work, we, as engineers, made recommendations regarding the project for further restoration of the church, which is a wonderful and unique example of Neo-Russian style, not typical for this area. The main difficulty that we faced was a huge amount of wet ground in the church basement. Now it would be correct to focus restoration efforts on water removal and creation of a fully-featured waterproofing system”, he said.

Local authorities thanked volunteers for their assistance. In addition, a tour to A.S. Pushkin “Boldino” literary memorial and museum and nature reserve was organized for them.
