The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority has sent the preliminary safety report of the Paks II project to independent international experts for consideration, through the International Atomic Energy Agency. The implementation license application of the Paks II project is based on the preliminary safety report.
Paks II. Zrt, the Hungarian client in the Paks II Nuclear Power Plant project, submitted the implementation license application to the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority on 30 June 2020. The document comprises over 280,000 pages, and one of its crucial parts is the chapter on safety.
“The fact that the preliminary safety report of the Paks II project has been handed over to independent international experts shows that the licensing of the Paks II Nuclear Power Plant is progressing according to plan, and that the project complies with the strictest international standards,” said Alexander Merten, consultant to the Director General of Rosatom and Senior Vice President of the Rosatom International Network.
“The preparation of the implementation license application is the result of years of cooperation between Russian and Hungarian nuclear energy experts. Once the license is obtained, the new, 3+ generation blocks of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant will be built to provide clean energy to Hungary for many decades to come,” said Alexandr Khazin, Senior Vice President of the ASE Engineering Company and Project Director of the Paks II Nuclear Power Plant project.
Currently the license applications for earthworks and the construction of the cutoff wall are being prepared, and once these are obtained, the earthworks necessary before the construction of the Paks II Nuclear Power Plant can commence in 2021. Currently the construction of the site buildings is in progress.
