Engineering Division Forms a Pool of Experts to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals for Environment

A round-table discussion devoted to environmental aspects of sustainable development took place at the Engineering Division of the Rosatom State Corporation on April 28. Event participants amounted to more than 20 employees of the company representing Atomenergoproekt JSC, JSC ATOMPROEKT, environment protection and environmental monitoring business units, branch offices for the Paks II NPP Project (Hungary) and for the El-Dabaa NPP Project (Egypt), contracted companies, namely Energospetsmontazh JSC and TretRosSEM Ltd., and other agencies.

The round-table discussion covered the issues of potential contribution by the Engineering Division to the UN sustainable development goals for environment, such as Clean Water and Sanitation, Climate Action, Life Below Water, Life on Land and environment protection in the territories where the company is present.

Ms. Natalia Goncharova, an Expert of the Communications Division, ASE EC JSC, described the role of the sustainable development agenda at the Engineering Division and at Rosatom in general. Mr. Anton Shadurskiy, Group Head, Environment Protection, Specialized Design Department, shared his professional experience in the environment protection field during the development of design and licensing documents at the Hanhikivi NPP, Paks II NPP and El-Dabaa NPP sites. He also presented Leningrad NPP II case studies and highlighted the peculiarities of environmental issues of the licensing process during the construction of nuclear power plants in Russia and abroad. Mr. Evgeniy Smola, Chief Specialist of the Department of Engineering Analysis and Optimization of Design Solutions, Atomenergoproekt JSC, described the plans to develop a treatment technology for unbalanced water. In his opinion, a discussion between representatives of different companies benefits both each particular NPP and the entire industry in terms of experience exchange.

In designing and constructing NPPs, the company facilitates the transfer to the zero-carbon power engineering, and conservation of natural resources, gives a boost to economies of the regions where it is present, makes a rational use of natural resources, maintains environmental and industrial safety at the constructed facilities.
