Nizhny Novgorod Design Institute of Atomenergoproekt celebrates the 70-th anniversary

18.08.2021
The Nizhny Novgorod Design Institute of Atomenergoproekt (Nizhny Novgorod branch of Atomenergoproekt JSC - Nizhny Novgorod Design Institute) included in the Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division celebrates the 70-th anniversary.
The enterprise was established on August 18, 1951 for accelerating the country industrialization speed and concentrated on design of thermal and electric power facilities, and since the second half of the 20th century has been involved in design of power units for nuclear power plants.
Developments of the Nizhny Novgorod Design Institute (NNDI) are recognized by the global expert community and now are extensively used for construction of complicated engineering facilities.
The first work "Technical and economic outlook study on siting conditions of nuclear power plants on the Center integrated power system territory" was of great significance for the whole power industry as this very document had determined until the 21st century the sites for large thermal and nuclear power plants in the center of the country.
Solutions taken for design of Armenian NPP lay in the basis of the first domestic standards of seismic resistance of nuclear power plants and let save the NPP operability after the 7-point Spitak earthquake.
Staff members of the institute participated actively in creation of the unified NPP design with VVER-1000 reactors, which was extremely important for development of the country's economy as it let transfer to serial construction of nuclear power units, essentially saving funds and reducing construction time frames. Standard power units of Rostov and Kalinin NPPs constructed according to the Nizhny Novgorod designs provide electricity for the south and central part of Russia.
On the base of the NNDI designs, the power units of the Gorkiy RHPP (regional hydroelectric power plant) were made, as well as those of Avtozavodskaya, Sormovskaya, Novogorkovskaya, Igumnovskaya and Dzerzhinskaya TPPs, which supply heat and electricity to the districts of the regional center and cities and became a basis of stable operation of enterprises of machine-building, oil-refining and chemical complexes of Nizhny Novgorod region.
Nowadays, the staff members included in the Engineering Division Joint Design Institute take active part in design of nuclear power units with VVER-1200 reactor of the safety generation III+ in Belarus, Hungary, Egypt, People's Republic of Bangladesh and Turkey.

For reference:
Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division unites the leading companies of the nuclear industry, namely: JSC Atomstroyexport (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, branches in Russia and abroad), Joint Design Institute - Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St-Petersburg branches - design institutes, branches in Russia and abroad, R&D branches) and subsidiary construction organizations.
The Engineering Division ranks first in the world by the order portfolio and the number of NPPs constructed simultaneously across the world.
About 80% of the Division’s revenues originate from foreign projects.
The Engineering Division implements construction projects for high-power NPPs in Russia and across the world, renders a full range of EPC, EP, EPC(M) services including project management and design activities, and develops Multi-D technologies for the management of complex engineering facilities. The Division relies on the achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and modern cutting-edge technologies.
We construct reliable and safe NPPs with 3+Gen VVER reactors that are in line with all international requirements and recommendations.
