The Kursk NPP-2 Has Summed up the First Results of Introduction of the Digital Monitoring of the NPP Construction Process

10.06.2022

Alexander Lokshin, First Deputy General Director of the Rosatom State Corporation - President of ASE JSC, and Andrey Petrov, Director General of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC - ASE-JSC First Vice President for Construction have paid a field visit to the Kursk NPP-2 construction site.

The leaders have inspected the power output facilities under construction, the desalination plant buildings, the power- supply-for-normal-operation buildings, the turbine hall and the reactor building of the first power unit.

At the field headquarters, with the participating representatives of civil, design, installation contractors and equipment manufacturers, the progress of the NPP construction and the issues of maintaining the staffing level and ensuring the supply of equipment have been discussed. At present, the auxiliary voltage has been supplied ahead of time in the temporary circuit at power unit No. 1, the concreting of the ceiling has been completed (elev. +12.600) at the power- supply-for normal-operation building at power unit No. 2. The works are being carried out in accordance with the approved schedule at 117 facilities, the total headcount of construction and installation workers amounts to almost 7 thousand.

As Andrei Petrov pointed out, timely delivery of the equipment accounts for 85% of the successful construction, so it is important to harmonize the deadlines, work out the logistic scheme, by monitoring the execution schedules.

During the visit, a meeting has been held too, to discuss the use of digital technologies in the NPP construction, transition to the use of the Electronic OBEYA information system, the digital personnel monitoring system and BIM modeling.

As it has been noted, the digital personnel monitoring system is the most promising and close to the full-range use of processes, and specifically, it monitors the employees’ access to the workplace, keeps track of the correct use of the personal protective equipment by employees; moreover, the Electronic OBEYA system is the project manager’s analytical instrument, capable of real-time collecting and analyzing a large amount of data on the project progress, in order to take prompt management decisions.

Mr. Alexander Khazin, one of the speakers and Advisor to ASE JSC President has pointed out that OBEYA is now available to all employees at the Kursk NPP site and its trial use has already been launched.

Testing of these systems is to be completed by September this year. From 2023, it is planned to use them at the Kursk NPP-2 site, after which they are going to be replicated at the Rooppur NPP and El-Dabaa NPP foreign projects which are being carried out according to Russian design.

As to applying the BIM technologies, Olga Tolstunova, ASE JSC Vice-President for Digitalization and Information Technologies, has spoken about the 3D modeling RPS project at the Rooppur NPP, the process of its optimization and the possibility of replication. Due to introduction of the BIM technologies, the losses from collisions and proofing of the paper working documentation are expected to be possibly reduced to 60%.

As a summing-up, Alexander Lokshin has emphasized that the digital transformation is not just a tribute to the times or a matter of the future, it is an intrinsic feature of the day allowing optimization of resource-related expenditures for production processes, collection, storage and processing of information.

The visit has ended by a meeting held between the division's management and the Kursk NPP core group of leaders.
