About 100 volunteers fr om Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division became active participants of All-Russia event “The Volga Day” held in Nizhny Novgorod on May 21.
“Projects in the field of ecology and land improvement have always been a priority for Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division”, said Mikhail Galaktionov, the project office manager for corporate culture and involvement. - We are happy that the participants of the event were not only our employees but also the members of their families which confirms once again the value of volunteer activities”.
The Volga Day campaign held within the framework of national project “Ecology” has been organized by Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “National Priorities” with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of RF, volunteer action “Water of Russia” and in partnership of Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division.
Alexander Gridnev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Nizhny Novgorod Region, explained the role of the national project in the sanitation of the Volga.
“The most significant funding is allocated for “Sanitation of the Volga” project. What does sanitation mean? We are building sewage treatment facilities so that discharges into the river would be within the regulatory permitted range. Today, 16 thousand of juvenile sturgeon weighing 3 grams each will be put into the river 80 km downstream. What is the Volga for us? Water from the tap is the Volga. Heating in houses is the Volga. The Volga is life for us”, said Alexander Gridnev.
Together with other volunteers, nuclear industry specialists collected waste on the banks of the Volga and participated in the eco-festival organized in the area wh ere the subbotnik (day of volunteer unpaid work) was held.
On total, 3000 volunteers from 15 Volga regions collected waste that was removed on 40 KAMAZ trucks from 200 beaches of the river.
In Nizhny Novgorod, the All-Russia event was supported by a network of Atomic Energy Information Centers, Volga Shipping Company JSC and Sberbank PJSC.
