Digital engineering in construction industry was discussed at ATOMEXPO-2022

21.11.2022

“Digital engineering. Myths and reality” round table organized by Atomstroyexport JSC (Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division) within the framework of 12th International Forum ATOMEXPO-2022, brought together the opinion leaders and the top Russian experts in the field of information technologies development for industrial facilities construction projects.

The participants of the round table, the Russian and foreign experts in the field of complex engineering facilities construction and digital transportation, discussed the new field of application of BIM-standards, real cases and TOP software solutions for information modeling.

In particular, they reviewed the modern achievements in the field of BIM-modeling that are mainly related to design, construction and operation of capital construction facilities, and the economic viability of application of BIM-standards and challenging issues of their implementation.

“Rosatom capital construction program is one of the largest in RF. In 2022, it reached one trillion rubles. Next year its amount will increase up to 1 380 billion rubles. The specific feature of this program is that the program is based on the construction of unique and technically complex facilities of industrial designation. During the implementation of the program, Rosatom realizes that our customers are not just expecting the facility but also its digital model so that in the future they will be able to operate it more efficiently. This is an imperative of our time. During the last few years, we have developed and introduced new digital products and platforms to control the cost and the time of project implementation at all the stages of its life cycle, the Mildi-D product line, the system of construction remote monitoring, digital methods of construction supervision and many others”, said Gennady Sakharov, Deputy Director for Capital Investments, State Construction Supervision and State Expert Review of Rosatom State Corporation.

Olga Tolstunova, Atomstroyexport JSC Vice President for Digitalization and Information Technologies pointed out that investment into the development of digital technologies and digital products is becoming a compulsory part for successful work of the company on the nuclear industry global market. “Technologies never develop by themselves, they are only a response to the needs and requirements. Those companies that possess digital technologies and inventions definitely have an evolution advantage. Progressive digital solutions are required by the market, including the international one, they are necessary for our customers. A digital dossier of a facility helps to manage it much more efficiently," she said.

The participants of the round table shared their experience in development, introduction and application of digital technologies. Byung-Ki Lim - Senior Research Engineer, Digital Innovation Section, KHNP, Mikhail Tarasov - General Director of the Central Design and Process Institute of Rosatom, Alexey Borovkov -Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University named after Peter the Great, Alexander Kochegarov - Head of Digital Transformation Programs of Capital Construction of Gazpromneft STC LLC, Gench Tanzer - IT- Director, TITAN2 IC IÇTAŞ INŞAAT A.Ş, Andrey Nikolaev - Head of Division of Architecture and IT Systems Introduction of NIPIGAZ JSC , presented their projects and opinions.

“The subject of digital engineering development is acquiring a new level of maturity. The scope of work of Rosatom digital and IT departments includes a wide range of subjects for development and introduction of digital technologies.   Information technology and automation are in demand at all stages of our work and State Corporation is one of the leaders in these processes, also at the international level," concluded Evgeny Abakumov, Rosatom State Corporation IT Director.

For reference:

Rosatom State Corporation has been taking focused efforts to develop digital competences, by creating its own software products and implementing them in production processes at large infrastructure power facilities. Simultaneously, the corporation actively promotes the industry specialists’ scientific developments and supports IT initiatives.

Being a partner of the state in development of the national technological sovereignty, Rosatom solves the most challenging tasks related to the development and implementation of domestic IT products, while implementing large projects, data and equipment management, advanced analytics systems. The investment budget funds allocated annually by the Russian nuclear industry companies for the development of digital technologies and their implementation in the production process, demonstrate their high efficiency, i.e: over the past three years, their return on investment has tripled.

Atomstroyexport JSC (belonging to the Rosatom Engineering Division) has created and successfully applied its own digital developments in the NPP design and construction, that have been implemented to streamline the company's internal processes. The Multi-D production and technological digital platform applied to manage the life cycle of complex capital construction facilities using end-to-end digital technologies in the design, construction, operation and decommissioning of hi-tech engineering systems, has been implemented into the production processes during the implementation of NPP projects at all sites of the division.
