At the Rooppur NPP construction site in the People's Republic of Bangladesh (the general designer and general contractor being the Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division), installation works for the core barrel of Unit 1 have been completed.

The barrel is made of stainless austenitic class steel, it is integral part of the nuclear power reactor. The weight of the barrel is 73.74 tons, its length is 10869 mm, and the diameter is 3610 mm.

The core barrel is one of the main elements of the reactor internals. Inside the barrel, there is a baffle and fuel assemblies which participate in the nuclear reaction. The core barrel bottom is perforated for circulation of the coolant (water of double degree of demineralization) for cooling of the fuel elements cladding.

“Installation of the core barrel is another important stage in Rooppur NPP construction. It marks the beginning of the assembly of the reactor”, said Alexey Deriy, Vice President - Director of Rooppur NPP Construction Project.

Rooppur NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors of the total 2400 MW capacity is being constructed under the Russian design 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors that had been successfully implemented at two units of Novovoronezh NPP was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements.

Russia is consistently developing international trade and economic relations, focusing on cooperation with friendly countries. Despite external restrictions, the domestic economy is augmenting its export potential to supply goods, services and raw materials all over the world.
