Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division has held the first hackathon for students of HES MEPhI.

The first joint AtomHack hackathon of Higher Engineering School NRNU MEPhI (HES MEPhI) and Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division was held in ASE JSC on 23-24 May.

The intellectual competitions were attended by 10 teams of first and second year students of HES MEPhI master course. During two days, the students were solving the technical task related to digitalization of the Engineering Division overseas project - Kudankulam NPP.

Experts and consultants in the hackathon were specialists of ASE JSC (part of the Engineering Division) involved in the development of information products, of Private Institution Cifrum, Greenatom JSC and NRNU MEPhI.

Students of Higher School of Engineering proposed interesting IT-solutions aimed at systemization of unstructured information. The developed product will make it possible to improve the quality of the detailed design documentation when it is handed over to the foreign customer.

“The hackathon participants received valuable practical experience which they will be able to use in their future work. Such events are part of the educational environment, they allow to receive practical skills, involve young people in the resolution the tasks which are important for the industry, they help young people understand in which direction they can develop and improve. The employers can see the talents and abilities of their potential employees. I think that many young people who participated in AtomHack will be invited to work in the industry, and in particular, in our division”, said Denis Mashkov, Director for Talent Management and Corporate Culture, summing up the results of the hackathon.

HES MEPhI master course is a joint education project of National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division, which has been implemented from 2017. Students are trained in IT-areas related to life cycle management of complex engineering systems and facilities. This year, a seventh master course will start. In 2022, HES MEPhI was the winner of the Ministry of Labor of RF competition in nomination “Best Practices of Youth Employment”. The Engineering Division create all the conditions for unleashing the potential of the students of HES and further development of their career in the nuclear industry.

The RF Government and large Russian companies pay great attention to systematic work to unlock the potential of students and young employees. Rosatom and its enterprises participate in starting specialized industrial chairs in Russian universities, to implement scholarship support programs and major educational projects, arrange internships and on-the-job training for students and their subsequent employment. Young specialists acquire new useful skills, which promote their career.
