On August 23, classes of the first Robotics summer school, organized by the network of Nuclear Energy Information Centers (NEIC) with support of Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division (the general designer and general contractor of Belarus NPP), were held at the Multi-functional Social and Cultural Complex of Youth Creativity in Ostrovets.
The event, associated with the celebration of the 556th anniversary of the town, was attended by more than 50 local school students. Under the guidance of Sergey Tsyss, a famous inventor and engineer, the youngsters studied the basics of robotics, learned how robots are put in motion and then got their first experience in programming ‘mechanical assistants’.
In the exhibition area, the pupils met operating robotic specimens: an octopus robot Vasily, equipped with the voice reproduction system, and a bionic dog robot.
“We endeavor to develop new areas in work with children, first of all, the ones related to digital technologies. This year was the first time when our long-term partners from Rosatom suggested classes on robotics. I think it was obvious by the children’s emotions that they like it very much. There is a feedback, so we will think how to expand and fill the program next year”, noted Olga Boyarovich, the head of cultural sector of Ostrovets District Executive Committee.
The summer school was visited by a delegation of reporters from the Republic of Kazakhstan. Representatives of NEIC and Atomstroyexport JSC told the visitors about projects in the science popularization area and hi-tech economic sectors, as well as how they help to solve tasks set to the nuclear industry companies in the area of early career guidance and university recruiting.
From the start of Belarus NPP construction project, the Engineering Division has taken active part in life of the town, the district and the region by implementing projects aimed at the development of engineering infrastructure, social and cultural facilities, support of sports and education. In total, over 150 projects were implemented in the region with participation of Russian nuclear companies.
