The “Images of the Russian History” photo exhibition promoted by the Rosatom Engineering Division has opened at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Chennai, India. It is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry in Russia and displays masterpieces of Russian painting from RF famous museums (represented by high-quality photographic reproductions). The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of government and public organizations, scientific and educational institutions, students, and artists. The exhibition will run until the end of December 2025.
Reproductions of treasures of Russian art will introduce visitors to the Russian people’s glorious victories and hardships they endured, show their spiritual ups and difficult trials, heroic deeds and everyday lives. Each work is a gate into the past, allowing us to feel the spirit of the times, understand the springs behind our ancestors’ actions and contemplate on the path we have traveled.
“This photo project is a tribute to the spirit and incredible courage of the Russian people, who have always been able to defend their country's right to freedom. Masterpieces of world art enable us to feel and sense our engagement with the development of Russian culture and mental strength, recognize once again responsibility to our common future,” Oksana Konysheva, Project Manager for the Rosatom State Corporation's Regional Department and the “Rosatom’s Territory of Culture” programme pointed out.
“This is not the first project to be jointly implemented by the Engineering Division and the “Rosatom Territory of Culture”. Moreover, it is gratifying that such cooperation has become a good tradition to demonstrate clearly the synergy of advanced technologies and cultural heritage. We have reached today an international level. This exhibition is a tribute to those who have developed our country’s culture and shaped its unique cultural patterns. Culture is a universal language that not only strengthens international ties but also makes Russian values closer and more understandable to our foreign partners,” said Nina Dementsova, Head of Communications Division at Atomstroyexport JSC.
For reference:
Russia and India have a long history of friendship and cooperation. As part of the Intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the area of NPP construction in India, concluded on November 20, 1988, and the Addenda thereto of June 21, 1998, Kudankulam NPP is being built jointly by the Russian and Indian partners.
Power Unit 1 was connected to the Indian national grid in 2013. On December 31, 2014, the power unit was put into commercial operation, on August 10, 2016 it was officially put into operation. Currently it is the most powerful unit in India that meets the up-to-date safety requirements. On August 29, 2016, Power Unit 2 was connected to the Indian national electric grid, and at the end of March 2017 it was put into warranty operation.
Kudankulam NPP will consist of six power units, each of them being 1000 MW capacity. Currently, the first two units are being operated and the remaining four ones are at various stages of construction.
The Kudankulam NPP is the southernmost nuclear power plant in India which supplies already the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu with electricity. A number of advanced technological solutions have been developed specifically for this nuclear power plant, such as a system of hydraulic structures that ensure an uninterrupted supply of cooling sea water and prevent possible environmental impacts.
“Rosatom’s Territory of Culture” is a socio-cultural programme of the Rosatom State Corporation which has been implemented since 2006. Its aims to involve residents of nuclear cities in the up-to-date cultural context. Under the auspices of the programme, projects are implemented with the participation of famous artists and groups, talents and giftedness are promoted, master classes of leading experts, educational and public awareness events, large-scale socio-cultural projects are organized, and some of them have become dramatic events to go beyond nuclear areas in whole Russia.
The Engineering Division of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom unites the leading companies of the nuclear industry, namely: Atomstroyexport JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, branches in Russia and abroad), Joint Design Institute - Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg branches - design institutes, branches in Russia and abroad, R&D branches) and subsidiary construction organizations.
The Engineering Division ranks first in the world by the order portfolio and the number of NPPs constructed simultaneously across the world.
About 80% of the Division’s revenues originate from foreign projects.
The Engineering Division implements construction projects for high-power NPPs in Russia and across the world, renders a full range of EPC, EP, EPC(M) services including project management and design activities, and develops Multi-D technologies for the management of complex engineering facilities. The Division relies on the achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and modern cutting-edge technologies.
We construct reliable and safe NPPs with Gen III+ VVER reactors that are in line with all international requirements and recommendations.
