The Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division presented an exhibition named “Images of Russian History” at the Russian Embassy in the People's Republic of Bangladesh (PRB) and the Russian Center for Science and Culture as part of Russia Day celebrations. The exhibition was elaborated in accordance with the “Territory of Rosatom Culture” industry program.
The exhibition was held from June 15 to 20.
High-quality reproductions of Russian painting masterpieces were collected from major museums and illustrated key milestones in the Russian history, such as glorious victories and hardships, spiritual upsurges and trials, heroic deeds and the everyday people’s life. Each work is a gate into the past, allowing us to feel the spirit of the times, understand the springs behind our ancestors’ actions and contemplate on the path we have traveled.
“This exhibition is a tribute to those who have defended Russia's right to independence and its unique evolution, over the centuries. This is an opportunity to look at history through art, feel your being involved in the great past and realize that you are responsible for the future," commented Nina Dementsova, Head of Communications Division at Atomstroyexport.
“The paintings presented at the exhibition are a valuable source of information about how different generations of artists perceived their country and its past. These works show that history is not a rigid constellation of facts, but a subject of ongoing debate and reinterpreting”, noted Oksana Konysheva, head of the “Rosatom Territory of Culture” program.
The exhibition became part of a series of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry in Russia. By means of art, the project emphasizes the importance of the cultural mission of the nuclear industry and its inextricable connection with human values.
The event took place at the Russian Embassy in the PRB and the Russian Center for Science and Culture and was attended by representatives of state and public organizations, scientific and educational institutions, students, celebrities, members of the Association of Graduates of Soviet Universities in Bangladesh.
For reference:
Russia and Bangladesh have a long history of friendship and cooperation. On May 21, 2010, an agreement was signed between the government of the Russian Federation and the government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy. And a year later, on November 2, 2011, an agreement was signed on cooperation in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. On November 30, 2017, the first concreting ceremony was held to celebrate the first concrete pouring to the foundation of power unit 1 at the Rooppur NPP, which was the first NPP constructed in Bangladesh. In July 2018, we saw the first concreting for power unit 2.
Currently, the construction of Rooppur NPP is in its hot phase. According to the General Contract of December 25, 2015, Rosatom is building an NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW, and located 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. This is an evolutionary Gen III+ design which fully complies with all international safety requirements.
