Rosatom’s Precise Energy Olympiad in India

From September 2 to 4, Chennai (India) hosted the anniversary Preсice Energy Olympiad organized by Atomstroyexport, JSC (Engineering Division of Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom). Over 12.5 thousand schoolchildren and students from 9 cities and more than 90 schools and colleges of Tamil Nadu State competed in mathematics, chemistry and physics.

The final events took place in the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Chennai with the support of Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre.

During the five years, the Precise Energy Olympiad has established itself as an educational initiative, which is important for the region. The project contributes to promotion of engineering and scientific professions, finding talented young people and arousing interest in natural sciences. During the five years, the Olympiad was attended by over 41 thousand schoolchildren and students of Tamil Nadu State.

“The five-year old history of the Precise Energy Olympiad reflects a stable interest in natural sciences and emphasizes the contribution of the project to the development of the Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of education and science”, said Nina Dementsova, Head of Communications Division of Atomstroyexport JSC, speaking at the award ceremony.


The winners of the Precise Energy Olympian in 2025 were:

School level – Prashanthesh S, Velammal Vidyalaya Annexure (Chennai);

Chemistry – Ragland Samuel J, Anna University (Coimbatore);

Physics – R Madhumetha, Rajalakshmi Engineering College;

Mathematics – Harish Krishna K, College of Engineering, Guindy (Anna University);

Competition for solving engineering problems – Vels Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS).

The purpose of Precise Energy Olympiad is promotion of engineering professions and support of talented young people from educational institutions of Tamil Nadu State. The Olympiad was organized by Atomstroyexport JSC (Engineering Division of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom) and the non-commercial organization “Energy of the Future”, in partnership with the Russian House in Chennai, National Research Nuclear University (MEPhI) and the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre.

Precise Energy Olympiad is also held in other countries – Rosatom partners in NPP construction – Bangladesh and Egypt. It is planned to hold the Olympiad in Uzbekistan.

Kudankulam NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in India and a flagship project of the Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of technology and energy. The Kudankulam NPP project involves the construction of six Russian-design power units with VVER-1000 type reactors with a total installed capacity of 6 000 MW. Units 1 and 2 were connected to the national grid of India in 2013 and 2016 and supply electricity to Southern India. Construction and erection works for Units 3 and 4 are currently close to completion. Construction of Units 5 and 6 is under way. Rosatom State Corporation is supplying fuel to Kudankulam NPP power units and will continue to supply it throughout their entire life cycle.
