In May 2010, Russia and Turkey signed an Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in construction and operation of the Nuclear Power Plant in the Republic of Turkey. Akkuyu NPP Project provides for the construction of four Power Units equipped with VVER reactors with a capacity of 1200 MW each.
First Turkish Nuclear Power Plant is constructed on the basis of BOO (Build — Own — Operate). At the beginning, the Project for construction of the Turkish Nuclear Power Plant is funded from Russian sources, in future it is planned to involve investors, both from Turkey and from the third countries. Technical and economic indicators of the NPP shall ensure reliable and economically profitable generation of electric and heat power in accordance with the requirements of the Turkish customer. The design solutions for Akkuyu NPP comply with all up-to-date requirements of the world nuclear community, specified in IAEA safety guides, the International Nuclear Safety Advisory Group and the requirements of EUR Club.
