Engineering Division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom is a multidisciplinary organization that carry out control and performance of activities at nuclear facilities and other industrial and civil facilities in Russia and overseas, which are related to design, construction, renovation, upgrade, including research and development, design and engineering, engineering and survey work, procurement, equipment and materials supplies, management of equipment manufacture, construction and erection, startup and adjustment, commissioning, warranty operation, decommissioning.

Main objective in biodiversity conservation
Conservation of ecosystem stability, conservation of biological species and their habitats from the most widespread to endangered species when operating in Russia and abroad.
Principles and methods for achievement of the objective
• Select the location of the nuclear energy facilities based on environmental legislation, taking into account the location of designated nature conservation areas, as well as buffer areas and areas of high biodiversity value.
• Ensure that resources are available for development, implementation and continuous improvement of biodiversity conservation measures.
• Hold activities on studying, conservation and monitoring the flora and fauna, as well as assess impacts, risks and opportunities, taking into account factors of direct and indirect impacts on biodiversity, including in cooperation with research institutions, non-profit organizations and other stakeholders.
• Implement mandatory and voluntary measures and programs to improve the state of biodiversity, as well as taking into account the priority of preventive actions regarding the potential impact of production activities on biodiversity.
• Improve knowledge in the field of biodiversity, spread best practices to all nuclear facilities subject to the activities of the Engineering Division organizations.
• Raise awareness of contractors on the construction sites of the issues related to biodiversity conservation.
• Analyze the effectiveness of measures in the field of biodiversity conservation and disclose information in divisional and public reports.
• Plan the development of the division, taking into account this policy, together with the Policy for Quality, Environmental Protection, Occupational Health and Safety of ASE JSC and the Joint Design Institute.
